Sang Doo and Un Hwan have been friend ever since they were young.
When Sang Doo was thrown away and forced to go live with a pair of rich people that had lost their son a week ago.
Sang Doo¡¯s parents had thrown him away when he was born because they did not have enough money to raise him.
Then the two died.
Sang Doo was growing up as a prince and Un Hwan grew up in a family that was pretty poor.
Sang Doo and Un Hwan was the complete opposite of each other.
Sang Doo was the most popular guy in school while Un Hwan was the most unpopular.

At age 18, the two are separated when Un Hwan's mom becomes bankrupt and a few ladies ! in town come and takes all the family's possessions.
When they try to take Un Hwan's father's prized record player and Un Hwan goes crying over it.
Since Sang Doo loves UnHwan so much, he goes and fight the man who was holding it.
But while fighting for the record player, Sang Doo accidentally pushes the man off the truck and into the river,giving the man major injuries.
Sang Doo is put in jail for an year.
While Sang Doo is stuck in jail, Un Hwan and her mom runs away to Seoul to start a new life.

When Sang Doo comes out of jail, he finds out from Un Hwan's best friend, Soot Ja that his parents were so embarrassed that they ran away from him to America.
He also learns that Un Hwan had left him too.
This left Sang Doo no choice but to find his uncle (a jae bi)in Seoul.

When living with his uncle for an year, he meets Sae Rah Han, an orphan who was pregnant with someone else's child.(she was fooled by a jae bi.)
When Sarah comes to him with the baby (he names her Bori) Sang Doo has no choice but to to work with his uncle as a jae bi (a person who plays with old women and gets all their money and breaks up with them when the lady has no more money.)

Sang Doo hates the fact that he's a jae bi but ever since he promised Bori that he would get rid of her sickness and that she would not hurt anymore.
He needed the money to pay the hospital bills.
A total of ten years pass ever since he had lived with his uncle and during the ten years, he has never even once not thought about Un Hwan and Bori.
Sang Doo meets Un Hwan again in a restraint while he is doing jae bi.
He meets her again and the two fall in love. Un Hwan is a school teacher, a math teacher.
But Un Hwan has already fallen in love with Min Suk Kang.
She pushes him away but Sang Doo comes in as a school gate guard, he receives more hate from Un Hwan.
But Un Hwan on the other hand, loves him but wants to hide her love for him because of Min Suk.
When Sang Doo comes in as a student in Un Hwan's class, he receives a bunch of popularity with the students there.
Some of the girls there make a homepage for him.
And one of the girls there is Hee Suh Yoon and Un Hwan's little brother, Ji Hwan is in love with her and is very mad when he finds out that Hee Suh loves Sang Doo.

But the conflict comes to act when Un Hwan moves closer to Sang Doo, he pushes her away and evertime he moves closer, she pushes him away.
The two fall in love again and start dating until two people start standing in their way.
The two people are Sarah Han and Min Suk Kang, and his supposed to be daughter, Bori.
The whole story turns upside down when it is known that Bori is not his daughter.
When Sang Doo gets caught that he is a jae bi and gets arrested because of his uncle, Un Hwan and Sang Doo show the love to each other that they had hidden. In the end, Sarah gets married with some other rich guy.
She falls for him because his son's name is Sang Doo. Sarah's new husband pays for the rest of the money(including the money Sang Doo had saved up) for Bori's surgery.
Bori's angel becomes Hee Suh(she had the same lungs for Bori.) Hee Suh and Ji Hwan are together in the end.

When Sang Doo comes out of jail again after an year, Min Suk and Un Hwan meet eachother on their way to see Sang Doo.
Sang Doo sees his uncle before anyone and when he sees Un Hwan, Bori, and Min Suk walking like a family from across the street, he becomes sad and turns around and walks the other way.
Un Hwan, seeing that he had turned around, runs after him.
When Sang Doo hears the car honking, he turns around to save Un Hwan from the truck. The two get hit by a truck but they survive.
Un Hwan and Sang Doo go back to their old home town and lives there. Bori lived with her mother, her stepfather, and her half sister in Seoul.

In the end, they show Un Hwan and Sang Doo in a school. And Sang Doo's job is the gate guard while Un Hwan is a teacher again. They show Un Hwan falling because she is about to have her baby. Then they show Sang Doo and Un Hwan walking in a hill with their new baby. Sang Doo says to Un Hwan, ¡°Sa Rang Hae¡±. And it ends always and forever may their love be together!!
